Module 1-AT Assessment Process in the School Environment-I found it very interesting how the IEP team initiates the AT set up process. I also enjoyed learning about the SETT framework. As a teacher, I can used the outline of the SETT framework to evaluate my student/s situation entirely to make sure the appropriate device is selected for them as well as that they are getting the most out of their AT device.
Module 2-AT Consideration in the IEP Process-In this module, I learned that everyone in the IEP team has input in regards to the student and ultimately what device is selected. The OCALI checklist which provides a guideline for the IEP to assess which piece of technology is right for the student is extremely helpful. In knowing this, as a future teacher I can help alleviate some of my concerns and let the checklists, questionnaires and other forms that have been created for this reason work and do their magic!
Module 3-Automatic Speech Recognition-In this module, it was interesting to learn that not necessary students with just physical disabilities will benefit from assistive technology alone. Students that have needs like issues involving spelling and grammar in their writing can benefit greatly from devices. As a teacher, knowing this can help to make the most use out of a device for it can be beneficial to many students, not just one particular student.
